Background
Axure RP 9 is a a powerful and comprehensive prototyping tool for designers to plan, prototype, and hand off to developers.
The main objectives of our study were to assess user comprehension and perception, identify user pain points based on insights from usability testing, and provide recommendations to optimize the user experience for Axure RP 9 users.
Challenges
Remote testing
Due to unexpected situation, we had to twist our test plan to fit the remote test situation. We conducted 2 pilot internal pilot testing. As a moderator, I made sure to mitigate the observer effect and make the participants as comfortable as possible. We ended up conducting the study with 6 remote participants.
Define user groups
Another challenge is how to define criteria for experienced and non-experienced users. We ended up created a survey with questions relate to advanced functionalities to assess their familiarity and experience levels. Participants who possess a set of advanced Axure skills were considered as experienced users.
Goal-based tasks
We realized we should focus on goal-based tasks because of the exploratory nature of Axure. So we twisted our test plan and give participants scenarios and high-level goals, in order to see a more natural level of interaction and accomplish the goals on their own. We also created 2 versions test plan for different user groups
Findings ≠ insights
Develop insights from large amount of responses and data is not easy. We worked together as a team, watched recordings, analyze and transfer our findings into user goals and needs, and provide recommendations to improve their experience.
